Trail Descriptions
SCENIC PASSAGASSAWAKEAG RIVER FRONT This property along the Passagassawakeag River provides an opportunity to enjoy a scenic nature walk within close proximity to downtown Belfast. The trail meanders through old-field pines, mixed conifer-hardwood stands with extensive bog bridging, and along a wild section of the river.
Look for
Stone walls, apple trees, old multi-trunk pine trees Brown ash, a slow-growing tree used by Wabanaki people for basket weaving Ferns and mosses along the banks of the last rapids before the river becomes tidal
Directions
From downtown Belfast, take Main Street west and immediately turn right onto Waldo Avenue. In 1.5 miles, turn right onto Doak Road. Parking area is on the left immediately after Doak’s Machine Shop. Stover Preserve is across the road from Head of Tide Preserve.
